Royalty Free Text (https://royaltyfreetext.com) is operated by Localhost Limited (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and your choices.
Summary
- We do not require an account to read books.
- Reading progress and reader settings stay in your browser unless you clear them.
- Analytics cookies are only set if you click Accept on the cookie banner.
- We do not sell your personal data or use advertising cookies.
Who is responsible
Localhost Limited is the data controller for personal data processed through this site. Contact us via our contact form or localhostlimited.com.
Information we collect
Information you provide
If you use our contact form, we collect your email address and the message you send so we can respond. We use Cloudflare Turnstile on that form to reduce spam; Turnstile may process technical signals such as browser characteristics. We do not use the contact form for marketing.
If you choose optional supporter checkout (when available), payment details are collected and processed by Stripe. We receive limited information from Stripe such as your email address, payment status, and subscription details, not your full card number.
Information stored on your device
To improve your reading experience, we store data locally in your browser (local storage), including:
- Reading position and progress for each book
- Reader preferences (for example typography settings)
- Your cookie consent choice
This data stays on your device. We do not sync it to our servers unless a future feature explicitly tells you otherwise.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate usage, for example which books are read and how the site performs. Analytics cookies are only set if you click Accept on the cookie banner. If you decline, Google's tag may still load in consent mode without storing analytics cookies.
We also set a cookie to remember your consent choice so we do not ask again on every visit. This cookie is necessary to honour your preference.
We do not use advertising cookies. See Google's privacy policy for how Google processes data when analytics is enabled.
Server and security logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider may log technical information such as IP address, browser type, requested pages, and timestamps. We use these logs for security, debugging, and capacity planning.
Why we use your information
- Provide the service: deliver pages, books, and reader functionality
- Remember preferences: reading progress and consent choices on your device
- Analytics (with consent): understand usage and improve the library
- Support: respond to messages you send via the contact form
- Payments (if you opt in): process optional supporter payments via Stripe
- Legal and security: protect the site and comply with applicable law
Legal bases (UK GDPR)
Where UK GDPR applies, we rely on:
- Consent: for analytics cookies
- Legitimate interests: for essential site operation, security logs, remembering your consent choice, and responding to support requests
- Contract: to process optional supporter payments you initiate
- Legal obligation: where we must retain or disclose information by law
Sharing with third parties
We may share information with service providers who help us run the site, including:
- Google: analytics (only if you consent)
- Stripe: payment processing (only if you use checkout)
- Cloudflare: hosting, Turnstile spam protection on the contact form, and email delivery
- Hosting providers: serving the website and related infrastructure
We do not sell personal data. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.
How long we keep data
- Browser storage: until you clear site data or we change storage keys in a way that resets them
- Consent cookie: up to 12 months
- Analytics: according to our GA4 retention settings and Google's policies
- Payment records: as long as needed for accounting, tax, and dispute resolution
- Contact messages: as long as needed to respond and resolve your request, then deleted or archived in ordinary business records
- Server logs: typically for a limited rolling period unless needed for security investigation
Your rights
If UK GDPR applies, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability where applicable. You may withdraw analytics consent at any time by clearing site cookies and local storage, then choosingDecline when the banner reappears.
You may lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Children
The site is intended for general audiences reading public-domain literature. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact us so we can delete it.
International visitors
We are based in the United Kingdom. If you access the site from elsewhere, your information may be processed in the UK and by our service providers in other countries with appropriate safeguards where required.
Contact form
When you submit the contact form, we process your email address and message to respond to you. Turnstile helps us block automated spam. Outbound mail is sent through our hosting provider's email API with your address set as the reply-to field so we can answer you directly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
