When a mysterious old sailor dies at the Admiral Benbow inn, young Jim Hawkins finds himself in possession of a map to buried treasure. He joins Squire Trelawney and Dr. Livesey on an expedition to a distant island, but the crew includes the cunning Long John Silver and a band of mutinous pirates. On sun-scorched beaches and in shadowy woods, alliances shift, codes are tested, and Jim must grow up fast. Stevenson's timeless adventure yarn invented much of the pirate lore we still know today: the black spot, the buried chest, the one-legged seafarer with a parrot on his shoulder.
